Some of my best memories from childhood, were the times my family spent two weeks in Wisconsin every July going camping and fishing. It was at Trade Lake in the northwestern part of Wisconsin and we had a blast! My parents and two older brothers and my parent’s friends and their five kids brought a lot of life and laughter to that little campground, situated on a small peninsula on Big Trade Lake. The fishing was great! The mornings were cool and full of the scent of cedars. The evenings were the mosquitoes feeding time and I was their number one target!

However, there’s really nothing more relaxing than floating on a boat, casting out your line and once in a while experiencing the thrill of tearing into a big one! Though, I’ve always found bluegill to be one of the toughest and funnest little fish you’ll ever reel in. You’d swear you had an eight pound catfish on the line but the distinctive zigzagging fight of the bluegill, gives it away, long before seeing it. Pulling those little fish out of the water and being amazed at what kind a fight a five inch long fish is capable of, seemingly defies the laws of nature. With fish, it’s true, size does not matter. As long as you’re not skunked, that’s all that counts!

I still enjoy fishing, though I don’t get to go as often as I like, but if I can’t fish, I can draw!
